Private Estate
A private coastal estate near Oban is looking for an experienced Estate Handyman / Maintenance Operative to join its estate team.
This is a varied role for a practical all rounder who can work independently and takes pride in maintaining properties, grounds, machinery and estate infrastructure to a high standard.
The Role
Carry out routine inspections and maintenance across residential, commercial and self catering properties.
Undertake general repairs including joinery, decorating, plaster repairs, tiling and basic plumbing and electrical work within your competency.
Carry out preventative maintenance and help keep buildings wind and watertight.
Respond to maintenance requests from estate staff, tenants and self catering guests.
Prepare and refurbish holiday properties between occupancies.
Keep self catering properties operational and ready for guests.
Install, repair and maintain fixtures, fittings, appliances and furnishings.
Help plan and carry out winter maintenance across estate properties.
Carry out routine servicing and minor repairs to estate machinery and equipment.
Help maintain vehicles, boats, trailers, tractors, mowers and other equipment where appropriate.
Identify work requiring specialist attention and liaise with external contractors.
Maintain workshops, tools and equipment.
Assist with groundskeeping, landscaping and mowing.
Maintain estate roads, pathways, fences, gates, tracks and public areas.
Assist with woodland work and collecting firewood for winter fuel.
Carry out checks, filter changes and maintenance of the estate’s private water supply.
Support seasonal estate projects and events.
Assist with fencing, basic construction, waste management and recycling.
Help maintain health and safety standards across the estate.
Respond to emergency maintenance issues when required.
Working Pattern
The role involves working across properties, grounds and infrastructure throughout the estate.
The successful candidate will work primarily independently while also working with the wider estate team and contractors when required.
There is potential for the successful candidate to live in an estate house.
Applications from married couples will also be considered, with the possibility of suitable part time work for a spouse in areas such as housekeeping, gardening or administration.
What We Are Looking For
Essential
Previous experience in property maintenance, facilities management or a similar practical maintenance role.
Strong practical skills across a range of trades.
Experience using and maintaining groundskeeping machinery.
Ability to carry out robust health and safety assessments and maintain safe working practices.
Experience safely using power tools and maintenance equipment.
Strong organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
Good problem solving and planning skills.
Strong attention to detail and pride in the standard of your work.
Full UK driving licence.
Good communication skills and the ability to work professionally with colleagues, guests, tenants and contractors.
Not Essential
Previous experience working on rural estates or hospitality properties would be useful.
Experience with boats and outboard engines would be advantageous.
Basic plumbing, electrical or joinery qualifications would be advantageous.
PA1 or PA6 spraying certificates would be advantageous.
Chainsaw qualifications would be advantageous.
Trailer towing entitlement would be advantageous.
Machinery operator qualifications, including 360 digger, would be advantageous.
First Aid qualifications would be advantageous.
