The Northern Lighthouse Board is looking for Mechanical Technicians to join its engineering team across Scotland and the Isle of Man.
This is a unique opportunity to work on some of the country’s most iconic lighthouses and marine navigation assets, helping ensure the safety of mariners while travelling to some of the most remote and spectacular locations in Scotland.
Based at one of our locations in Edinburgh, Oban, Inverness, Orkney or Shetland, and travelling by land sea and air to any of the lighthouses across Scotland and the Isle of Man, this is a unique opportunity to support the provision of vital aids to navigation for the benefit and safety of all mariners.
The Role
Install, maintain and repair mechanical equipment supporting lighthouse and navigation systems.
Carry out fault finding, diagnosis, inspection and testing activities.
Work on diesel engines, generators and associated fuel systems.
Inspect, maintain and certify lifting equipment and fall arrest systems.
Undertake basic plumbing, joinery, glazing and metalwork tasks.
Respond to equipment faults and outages when required.
Support planned maintenance programmes across lighthouse sites.
Supervise contractors and provide technical support on site.
Maintain accurate records and technical documentation.
Work safely in remote and challenging environments.
Travel by land, sea and air to sites across Scotland and the Isle of Man.
What We Are Looking For
Essential
Relevant mechanical engineering qualifications and or experience.
Experience working with diesel engines and associated mechanical systems.
Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
Strong problem solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Full driving licence.
Commitment to health and safety standards.
Not Essential
Experience with lifting equipment and fall arrest systems.
Experience within marine, industrial or infrastructure environments.
What Is On Offer
Salary of £36,867 rising to £39,920 after the first year.
Guaranteed annual overtime allowance of £7,373 rising to £7,984.
Total annual remuneration of £44,240 rising to £47,904.
